Appointment Meeting for Jinan University- University of Birmingham Joint Institute (J-BJI) was held in meeting room of the Joint Institute building, Oct 17th, 2023. Vice President of Jinan University(JNU) Hong An, Deputy Director of CPC Organization Department Chen Long, the management team of J-BJI attended the meeting. Faculty and staff of J-BJI also attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Chen Long.
At the meeting, Chen Long announced the appointment notice: Zheng Xian was appointed as Dean of J-BJI. Li Qiong was appointed as Chair and Deputy Dean of J-BJI. Wang Chunchao was appointed as Dean of School of Economics and would no longer serve as Dean of J-BJI.
Wang Chunchao expressed his gratitude towards the support and trust from the university leadership. He looked back on the journey together with faculty and staff of J-BJI. Although full of gratitude and reluctance, he sincerely wished a glorious future for J-BJI. He wholeheartedly supported the decision of the Party Committee of the university, saying that even though he was no longer Dean of J-BJI, he would always support the development of J-BJI. He hoped that J-BJI would make greater progress and development under the leadership of the new Dean and management team.
Zheng Xian thanked the university leadership and staff of J-BJI for their trust in his speech. He said that with the previous management team, J-BJI had achieved leapfrog development in international cooperation, further education and employment, academic competition and other aspects, and had become a benchmark in South China and even in the whole country. He was honored to be appointed as Dean of J-BJI and was full of anticipation and expectation for the new position. In the future, he would take on new responsibility in the new position, do his best to work with the whole crew to build J-BJI, and make contributions to the “Double First-Class” construction of JNU.
The previous management team of J-BJI cooperated and complemented each other, leading the whole institute to achieve brilliant results, said Hong An. As the first Sino-foreign cooperated joint institute of JNU, J-BJI had achieved accelerated growth and development in internationalization, system and mechanism construction, and improvement of talent systems, and had made remarkable achievement in multiple areas, including students’ employment, further studies and enrollment.
Hong An mentioned that during his tenure, Wang Chunchao had done a lot of fundamental and long-term work, creating various thriving projects and enhancing the reputation of J-BJI. She expressed her sincere gratitude for his contribution in J-BJI’s construction, discipline development and scientific research. HONG An indicated that Zheng Xian was a pure scholar and persistent manager, and believed his arrival would bring new vitality into the development and construction of J-BJI. Last but not least, Li Qiong had always been committed to the construction and development of J-BJI since its establishment. Hong An expressed her affirmation and gratitude to Li Qiong for leading a team of concerted efforts and solidarity in her last term.
As for the new term of the management team, Hong An has made a few requests. Firstly the must, thoroughly implement President Xi Jinping’s, ‘Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’ in the new era, and stick to the Party’s leadership and construction based on the characteristics of Sino-foreign cooperated institutes. Secondly, thoroughly implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and fulfill the original mission of educating people for the Party and nation according to the diversified educational environment of Sino-foreign cooperation. Thirdly, root in the country’s Double First-Class initiative, focus on the construction of key majors, expand the scope of disciplines, and support the school’s Double First-Class and high-level university construction. Lastly, build consensus between the Party and the administration to work together, and forge ahead in unity. She hoped that J-BJI would make greater progress in building a first-class and world-famous Sino-foreign cooperated institute under the leadership of the new management team.
After the meeting, Li Qiong gave gifts on behalf of J-BJI. Wang Chunchao was presented a gift box which contained the J-BJI mascots representing 3 classes of graduates, while Zheng Xian was presented a T-shirt of J-BJI welcoming him to join the J-BJI family.
