Comprehensive evaluation

The comprehensive evaluation is to record students’ ideology, morality, behaviour, conduct, academic performance, and performance in arts and sports which fully reflects their overall quality. JNU will undertake an annual comprehensive evaluation to assess students’ performance of life and study in campus.

The comprehensive evaluation is significant as it functions as a key basis for scholarship review, and also a key reference for the selection of excellent students and exchange students. Students' comprehensive evaluation results will consist of three aspects for score weighting:

• ideology and morality

• academic results

• problems and performance

Each aspect consists of three weightings:

• base points

• additional points

• deducted points.

Base points of ideology and morality, arts and sports will be assessed by score weighting via three processes:

• self-assessment online

• class rating

• school/department rating.

Base points of academic results will be directly calculated by retrieving the scores of student’s major courses in the school year.

In the comprehensive evaluation, the integrated student information system will be initiated to perform online evaluation. The system has a unified formula to calculate students’ scores of evaluation. Students need to participate in the online selfevaluation within the required time limit.

The comprehensive evaluation results of every student will be publicized in class to ensure fairness and transparency. Each student who has participated in the evaluation can also view the scores and rankings after the evaluation is over.

The comprehensive evaluation will be conducted in accordance with Registration Handbook of JNU for Comprehensive Students Evaluation Results and the notice of the Student Affairs Office in the school year.

5A Excellence Program

The 5A Excellence Program was launched in 2012 among undergraduate students in JNU. By setting up examples of excellence for individuals in class, and models of eminent collective and individual strengths, more outstanding and creative talents can be cultivated, and students can be motivated to strive for excellence, competitiveness and fulfilment of their dreams.

5A means:

• Ambitious and lofty ideals
